Law Practice

Peter Spencer is a founding partner of Gourlay Spencer Wade.  Mr. Spencer’s practice is restricted to civil and commercial litigation and dispute resolution.  He is well-known both within the legal profession and among his clients as a skilled and experienced counsel and was awarded the honorary title of Queen’s Counsel in 2011 in recognition of his work professionally and in the community.

During his 35 years practising in British Columbia, Mr. Spencer has regularly appeared in all levels of trial and appellate courts including the Supreme Court of B. C. and the B. C. Court of Appeal, and on occasion, the Supreme Court of Canada.  He has also appeared in the Federal Courts and before several administrative tribunals. 

In addition to his many individual clients, Mr. Spencer has commonly represented bankruptcy trustees and estate executors, large companies in the transportation and resource sectors, various provincial and federal government agencies, one of the world’s largest wineries, several companies in the forest industry, and sports organizations.

Professional Activities

Peter Spencer is an active member of the Vancouver legal community, regularly attending section meetings of the Canadian Bar Association including the insolvency, the civil litigation, and appellate advocacy sections. He has written position papers on proposed legislation for submission to the government and has  appeared as a presenter and as a guest instructor in numerous courses put on by the Continuing Legal Education Society, the Trial Lawyers Association, and various sections of the Canadian Bar Association (B. C. Branch) on topics ranging from trial advocacy to insolvency issues.

  • former club coach in track and field and for several community youth sports groups.
